What it is

A practice table you can keep open in a browser tab.

The GoVideoPoker.net trainer is a free, in-browser video poker practice tool. You are dealt a real random hand from a 52-card deck, you click the cards you want to hold, and the trainer immediately tells you the expected-value-optimal play. If you hold the wrong cards, it shows you the better hold and the per-decision EV difference. Nothing else on the page is moving. Nothing is for sale.

Every variant, every pay table, and every strategy chart behind the trainer has been hand-verified against Bob Dancer's and Jean Scott's published references and cross-checked with the Wizard of Odds methodology. That work has been continuously maintained since February 2007 by a small staff in Reno and a network of more than 90 volunteer casino reporters across 38 states. The trainer itself has now logged 41.7 million simulated hands for users — none of which were played for money, and none of which required an account to play.

It is free because the people who built it believe serious players deserve a serious practice surface. Use it as long as you want, on any device, with or without a network connection.

The same trainer that defaults to 9/6 Jacks or Better also loads 9/7 Double Double Bonus, Super Aces, Full-Pay Deuces Wild, 8/5 Bonus Poker, and 41 others — every one with its own verified pay table and its own strategy chart. You switch variants in two clicks; the underlying EV matrix swaps with it.

After every hand the trainer reports the expected value of your hold and the EV-best alternative in hundredths of a percent. Over a session you see exactly which habits cost you money, by how much, and how often. No vague "good play / bad play" labels — the numbers, in the same units the math is written in.

The trainer is a Progressive Web App. Add it to your iPhone or Android home screen and it loads in under a second with no address bar and no network required. People use it in the parking lot of a casino with one bar of LTE to drill a 100-hand session before going in.

Zero ads on the practice surface.

There are no banners, interstitials, autoplay videos, or "recommended casinos" panels anywhere near the trainer window. The math pages stay clean so the math is the thing you see. Ad inventory, if it exists at all on this site, lives on separate pages that are not the trainer.

Install it

Pin the trainer to your home screen in under a minute.

The trainer is a Progressive Web App, which means it installs to your phone like a normal app, opens full-screen with no browser chrome, and works without a network connection once it's been loaded at least once. Useful in casinos, on planes, and anywhere the Wi-Fi is unreliable.

iOS — iPhone & iPad

  1. Open /trainer/ in Safari and deal at least one hand so the page is cached.
  2. Tap the Share button (the square with the up arrow) at the bottom of the screen.
  3. Scroll down and tap Add to Home Screen.
  4. Name it "Video Poker" (or anything you like) and tap Add.
  5. Open the new icon. The trainer runs full-screen, with no address bar, and works offline from now on.

Android — Chrome & other browsers

  1. Open /trainer/ in Chrome and deal at least one hand so the page is cached.
  2. Wait for the "Install app" prompt at the bottom of the screen, then tap Install. If no prompt appears, open the browser menu (three dots) and choose Install app or Add to Home Screen.
  3. Confirm the install. A new icon appears on your home screen labeled "GoVideoPoker".
  4. Open the new icon. The trainer runs full-screen and works offline from now on, even with airplane mode on.
